NPS Volunteer Eric Harper at Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site
Volunteering at Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic site has been an amazing experience. Spending time at this place of such historical significance has given me the opportunity to share an important part of Hawaiian culture and history with people from all around the world. As a volunteer at the park, I feel that I am helping to perpetuate the culture of Hawaii’s amazing people. Sharing the legends and history of the great King Kamehameha, and the significance of this impressive heiau with park visitors is a way for me to give something back to the Hawaiian people, both ancient and modern. As a person that has a deep and true respect for places of natural beauty, history, and the preservation of traditional culture, volunteering at this historic site has been very rewarding.
