‘Ike Hana No‘eau: Experience the Skillful Work by Mardie Lane

E komo mai…come and spend time with park rangers and volunteers as they share the cultural and natural history of Hawai‘i Wednesday, January 13, 2010 10 am to 12 noon at the Kilauea Visitor Center, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.

Make a Bamboo Nose Flute: Join park ranger Adrian Boone and learn to make and play your own ‘ohe hano ihu, a
bamboo nose flute. Thin-walled Hawaiian bamboo is used to make this three-hole wind instrument. It’s played by blowing air into a hole with one nostril while holding the other nostril closed.

Talk Turtles: Hear highlights of the 2009 nesting season for the endangered honu ‘ea ( hawksbill turtle). Dedicated volunteers of the Hawksbill Turtle Recovery Project will share their stories about protecting the nesting females, their eggs, and hatchlings on Hawai‘i Island.

‘Ike Hana No‘eau is a series of Hawaiian cultural programs sponsored byHawai‘i Volcanoes National Park and theHawai‘i Natural History Association.
