The Pacific Islands are for the Birds

The last remaining endemic goose species in Hawaii, there are only about 1,300 nene left in the wild (Photo Courtesy U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service).

The ae`o (Hawaiian black-necked stilt) are found only in Hawaii and with only about 1,400 individuals remaining, they are considered endangered.

The ko`ko' (Guam rail) which disappeared from the wild in the 1980's, is making a slow recovery through reintroduction programs (Photo Courtesy USGS).

Ti`otala (white-collared kingfisher) is a resident, native breeding land bird found in American Samoa.
