Celebrate Kamehameha Day!

June 10, 2010

The Warrior and Chief Kamehameha unified the Hawaiian Islands 200 years ago in 1810.

Every year, celebrations are held across the Hawaiian Islands to honor the most renown king in Hawaii’s history, King Kamehameha the Great. At the original Kamehameha Statue in Kapa`au on the Big Island (there are 3 others…one in Hilo, Honolulu and in Washington, DC) a massive celebration is held, with a lei draping ceremony (flower leis over 30 feet in length!), an elaborate parade and festivities at Kamehameha Park. Like previous years, you can join park rangers from Pu`ukohola Heiau National Historic Site at Kamehameha Park from 10:00am-2:00pm for a time of fun with traditional Hawaiian games, including moa pahe`e (sliding dart), ulu maika (rolling disks), konane (Hawaiian checkers) and much more!

For more information about this wonderful event, please see the official celebration website: http://www.kamehamehadaycelebration.org/
