Ed Shiinoki Receives Award

Ed is without a doubt a very important key figure here at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Ed ensures many projects and events happen and happen smoothly.

Even more importantly, Ed personally trains and mentors our new volunteers making their transition a more positive experience.

After receiving the award, Ed told the group, “When I started volunteering at the park I wanted my experience to be a good one. My purpose had to be simple in its make up and absolutely clear in my entire being, TO HELP IN WHATEVER WAY I CAN AND TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Plus, do not have any ulterior motives of being compensated for the work I do. I think my purpose is working, I’m feeling real good and I’m happy!”

Ed also said, “I wish to share my knowledge and skills in which ever way I can. As my Grandma used to say, “if you no share all that you know, bombai when you make, poho….”” (later when you die, out of luck).

Thank you for all that you do Ed. You are truly appreciated!
