Musicians at Music and Talk Story Kailapa 2011

“Sense of Place: Music and Talk Story”, an innovative project that creates small informal music events to share and preserve stories of communities along the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail is entering its second year.  Music and Talk Story brings people together at gatherings that celebrate the past, present and future of communities and allows for appreciation and continued nurturing of our unique cultures.

Ala Kahakai Trail Association, Hui Kuapa (Friends of the Future) and Olohana Foundation will assist community groups to organize four 2012 events which will be held at locations from North Kohala to South Kona over the next few months. The first event will be held at Kailapa Hawaiian Homestead Mauka, north of Kawaihae, on Sunday September 16, 2012 from 4-7pm. Follow the signs and bring the ohana, your chair and favorite beverage for an afternoon of music and stories of the place. Liquid Robotics, Inc. is providing additional support to this event.

This year, forty eight national parks received grants for a variety of programs to connect underserved and under-engaged populations with their national parks in innovative and meaningful ways. The project was made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation America’s Best Idea through the generous support of L.L. Bean, DISNEY, the Anschutz Foundation, and the Ahmanson Foundation. For more information about the National Park Foundation, go to www.nationalparks.org.
