October 5, 2012

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park Kīlauea Visitor Center theater plays its feature film “Born of Fire – Born of the Sea” every hour to introduce visitors to the park from both a geological and cultural perspective. Until now it was an “English only” narrated film.

The park has recently introduced hand held audio wands that are available for check out at the visitor center front desk at no charge. The wands contain translated audio narration that is synchronized with the film. Currently Chinese, Filipino, German and Spanish are offered with Japanese coming soon. The visitor can read about the wands on one of the posters (Chinese version pictured) and take one of the cards to the front desk to check out a wand. No English required!

The translations and audio recordings were completed 100% by volunteers.

A special thanks to:

  • Jovel Ananyo – Filipino
  • Li Lijuan – Chinese
  • Michael Szoenyi – German
  • Danny Carratala – Spanish
