Nahaku Kalei of the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail is serving as a crew member aboard the voyaging canoe Hikianalia. Having made good progress last night, Nahaku and her fellow crew members are looking at a Sunday arrival in Hilo. According to their most recent updates, the crew are enjoying stronger winds, which are allowing them to pick up speed as they head towards the Islands. You can follow along with her voyage by visiting: http://hokulea.org/ Here is an update she posted a few days back: http://hokulea.org/wwv-report/november-3-crew-views-nahaku-maka-and-ira/. You can see her current location by visiting: http://www.hawaiilink.net/~mms/wwv_hikianalia/. While visiting this interactive map, you can see how they utilize stars and other natural signs to navigate the vast Pacific. This voyaging canoe was recently completed in Auckland, New Zealand. Nahaku is part of the second leg of a long-distance voyage to bring the Hikianalia to its home in Hawaii. We wish Nahaku a continued safe journey and we look forward to her return to Hawaii!
