Can you see what I saw ?

A colleague posted the below photo on May 3rd in an article called The Volcano House Story: Restoring History to Hawaii’s Oldest – and Newest – Hotel

I stared and I stared at this photograph. Something was amiss, but I couldn’t figure out what it was. Can you figure out what is wrong with this photo?

    It looks like Moana Loa in the background. Shouldn’t that be in the other direction from this view?

    Aloha “Islander Park Science” ~ From what I know about this view on Kilauea’s caldera this photo is transposed? Mauna Loa’s long downward slope, from this angle should be leading to the south and west, in this picture appears to be facing the wrong direction – to the north and east.

    Well, it looks to me like the image is reversed (flipped on its vertical axis) — but then, I’ve only been to HAVO twice in my life.
