USS Arizona Memorial, Oahu

If you have visited the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, you understand the power of the place to illicit emotions. Often, it is the age of the person that determines how powerful a connection is to the events of WWII. Many historians contend that a memorial says more about the people who built it than the people it was meant to memorialize. It is a testament to the power of memory and of re-memory, that at the 60th anniversary of the attack, both American and Japanese survivors of the battle were present and honored.
