25th Anniversary Celebrations: Celebratory Event
Yesterday officially marked the 25th anniversary of the National Park of American, established on October 31, 1988. A special event was held that focused on 25 years of national park accomplishments and partnerships with American Samoa government agencies and village chiefs. Present at the event included Reverend Fa’atauva’a Talamoni, Lieutenant Governor Lemanu Mauga, Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs Tuiagamoa Tavai, village chiefs, multiple agency directors, national park staff, and performances by the Coleman Elementary School students.
The chiefs in attendance represented all of villages that are part of the 50-year lease that was signed in 1993 by the American Samoa Government and the National Park Service. These villages include Āfono, Fagasā, Faleāsao, Fiti’uta, Ofu, Olosega, Pago Pago, Ta’ū, and Vatia.
We look forward to another 25 years of working with our partners throughout the islands.
