25th Anniversary Celebrations: Student Artworks

Seventeen elementary students from Tutuila and Manu’a schools submitted artwork to help celebrate the National Park of American Samoa’s 25th anniversary. Their artwork, drawn with a variety of mediums including crayons, paints, markers, and pencils, depicts the natural and cultural significance of the national park and their village.

“Each student’s creative and colorful artwork illustrates their own connection to the national park,” said Chief of Interpretation and Education Michael Larson. “Through these students efforts, we can come to appreciate their own artistic perspectives about their special homes
that are part of the national park.”

The students and schools that contributed include:
• Afonotele Elementary School: Dieter Iauluato and Solomon A.A.A. (level 8 ) and Sina Samiu (level 7).
• Mount ‘Alava Elementary School: Lydia Anoa’i and Solomona Fetuao (level 7) and Sanele Passi and Moses Michael Samia (level 8 ).
• Le’atele Elementary School: Marlaena Sala and Nila Sale (level 7), and Joseph Faafetai (level 8 ).
• Coleman Elementary School: Safi Tuamanu, Alfred Te’o, and Tuni Fiso (level 7).
• Olosega Elementary School: Walter Nevile (level 7).
• Faleāsao Elementary School: Luteru Maui (level 3) and Allyson Liusamoa and Victory Toa (level 4).

The public is invited to view the students’ artwork at the National Park Visitor Center in Pago Pago. The visitor center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm—closed on federal holidays.

The National Park of American Samoa thanks the students and the principals for their participation in the 25th anniversary celebration.
