Manuia Lau Malaga Hōkūle’a and Hikianalia Crews
This morning, several of our National Park of American Samoa park rangers visited the Hōkūle’a and Hikianalia crews to bid them safe travels on the next leg of their Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage and beyond. The 2014 voyage ends in New Zealand as part of their mission to navigate toward a healthy and sustainable future for ourselves, their home—the Hawaiian Islands—and our Earth through voyaging and new ways of learning. Their core message is to mālama (care for) Earth—our natural environment, children, and all people.
Our collaboration with the crews last week to present education programs at schools is only a first step. The National Park of American Samoa will strive to carry on their efforts for the future of navigation and its connection with Samoans and other Polynesian people.
As a token of our appreciation for their efforts to make the world a better place and as a farewell, our non-profit partner, the Hawai‘i Pacific Parks Association, provided National Park of American Samoa t-shirts for each crew member.
Manuia Lau Malaga! (Have a safe journey!)
